Leaflet the Bell on October 12th!

[Information in this alert came from the Coalition of Immokalee Workers. You can reach them at: workers@ciw-online.org]
Posted October 11, 2004

Mark your calendars for some exciting upcoming events in the Taco Bell boycott! From Indigenous Resistance Day to a tour of the Pacific Northwest , join them this autumn as they turn up the heat in this historic campaign for justice in the fields.

October 12 is Columbus Day on calendars, but across the globe it's known as "the International Day of Indigenous Resistance" by indigenous communities and their allies. Coalition of Immokalee Workers members have chosen to recognize this day by issuing a call for action against Taco Bell and Yum Brands. Although their indigenous members speak many languages, including Canjobal, Mam, Quiche, Mixteco, Zapoteco, Nahual, and Tzotzil, they all speak with one voice in the struggle for fair wages and justice in the fields.

So join them in celebrating more than 500 years of indigenous resistance by taking action on October 12th against Taco Bell. You can: leaflet at your Taco Bell, send postcards to Yum Brands, or screen the new CIW DVD, "Immokalee: From Slavery to Freedom." For more information on how to get involved or to request materials, write to workers@ciw-online.org.

Also in October: This year's mini tour will run from Oct. 15th - Oct 26th. It will embark on a tri-state journey through the Pacific Northwest - land of evergreens, beavers, rocky coastlines, espresso, and potatoes. The CIW delegation will be on the road in Oregon , Washington State , and Idaho . The mini-tour members will speak out at the Northwest Social Forum, visit hot Boot the Bell schools including Portland State University, make a glorious return to Corvallis after last spring's MEChA conference and massive march, and make some noise at Boise State's newly branded basketball arena - the Taco Bell Pavillion. For more information on dates, locations, and how to get involved go to www.sfalliance.org or drop and email to sean@sfalliance.org.

And when you have a chance, be sure to stop by the newly renovated Coalition of Immokalee Workers website and updated resource center for the Taco Bell boycott - www.ciw-online.org.
