  The Maryland legislature passed a law Thursday, January 12, that would require Wal-Mart Stores to increase spending on employee health insurance, a measure that is expected to be a model for other states. Read article.

Statement: USAS Response to Wal-Mart's Announcement to Toughen Standards in Supply Factories

  Due to Wal-Mart's announcement to toughen standards in supply factories (published in LA Times, October 20; see article) United Students Against Sweatshops has written an statement (see statement and organizations which have endorsed it ). The statement has been signed by Campaign for Labor Rights, International Labor Rights Fund, Sweartfree Communities, Maquila Solidarity Network, National Labor Committee, among other organizations.
